7.5. Low-Carbon Energy Use

In line with its sustainability objectives, IGU prioritizes increasing the use of low-carbon energy sources in energy management and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Within this scope, the use of renewable and environmentally friendly energy technologies is regularly monitored and reported each year.

7.5.1. Low-Carbon Energy Use

IGU aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by increasing the use of low-carbon energy sources in energy management. The University regularly monitors and reports energy consumption data in order to measure its environmental impacts and strengthen its sustainability strategies. Accordingly, data on low-carbon energy use for 2025 are presented below:

Figure 3. Energy Consumption by Low-Carbon and Other Sources, 2024–2025 (GJ)

In 2025, the University’s total energy consumption reached 25,706.18 GJ, a 3.38% increase from 24,865.01  GJ  in  2024.  Low-carbon  energy  accounted  for  17,386.26  GJ  (67.63%  of  total consumption), marking a 6.77% growth compared to 16,284.29 GJ (65.49%) in 2024. Consequently, the share of low-carbon energy grew by 2.14 percentage points.

With the total floor area remaining constant at 269,160 m², low-carbon energy intensity increased from 0.0605 GJ/m² in 2024 to 0.0646 GJ/m² in 2025 (+6.78%), reflecting proportional growth in clean energy use per unit area.
